St. Christopher’s has always been known for its outreach ministry. Here is a list of the outreach programs in which we are or have recently been involved.
Family Promise: This is a national organization and St. Christopher’s has been involved in the Hawaii chapter since 2006. We provide overnight quarters and three meals a day for a week, four times a year, to families in transition. We were also the first organization in Hawaii to provide a house for Family Promise families to use during the day. Many hands are needed to make these weeks a success! I.H.S.: Begun in 1978 by St. Christopher’s Rector, Fr. Claude du Teil, Institute for Human Service (I.H.S.) has grown into the largest service organization on the island, working to prevent homelessness and hunger. St. Christopher’s Christmas Dinner: On a Sunday in December, we typically prepare a Christmas meal that we share with State Mental Hospital clients and staff; we sing together, laugh together, and fellowship together as well. We began this ministry in 1960. Other outreach programs include: Blood Bank Hawaii, Episcopal Relief and Development, Windward Boys & Girls Club, Walleyhouse, Windward Senior Day Care Center, Women’s Community Correctional Center in Kailua (via Pu'a Foundation) |
