The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai‘i has partnered with Ministry Architects of Nashville, TN (www.ministryarchitects.com), to discern our hopes and dreams for youth ministry in our diocese. This process begins with an assessment in which consultants will listen to us share, vent, dream, and talk about what we really want for the young people of our diocese. Listening sessions will take place via video conferencing the week of August 11-15.
We need your help in identifying youth and parents of youth who can participate in the listening sessions. Can you contact youth and their parents and share this information with them please? Please strongly encourage them to participate in this process as it is essential in moving forward with youth programs in our diocese.
After the assessment, Ministry Architects will provide an overview picture of where the diocese is now relative to where it would like to go, and then give a detailed proposal and timeline for how to move forward in building a sustainable youth ministry, based on what they have heard from us.
On September 13-14, Ministry Architects will be with us at Camp Mokule‘ia to lead us in a Visioning Summit. It will begin with a presentation of the findings from the listening groups and recommendations for moving forward. We will then transition to creating a concrete vision for youth ministry in our diocese. We welcome your participation on that weekend. Please contact Darrell at firstname.lastname@example.org or (808) 637-6241 to sign up. RSVP for the August listening sessions by August 8. RSVP for the Visioning Summit by September 3.
TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY BEGINNING REVELATION
All are welcome to join us in Mo. Giovan's office at 10am. This week we will be starting a study of Revelation chapters 1-3. Please join us as we begin this exciting new study. Also, please join us for Taco Tuesday at Bowles afterward!
St. C's is in great need of more volunteers for weekly services, both at 7:15 and 9:30. We are currently looking for readers (Scripture and Prayers of the People) as well as ushers and greeters. And Mother Giovan is conducting Eucharistic Minister Training at the Diocese on July 27th. However, she can train anyone at our church at a pre-arranged time. If you feel called to help our congregation during the worship service, please call Angie in the church office. If you can read or if you can smile, you are exactly who we are looking for!!
What others are saying:
“The survey has me thinking about what service means to us at our church – the spiritual work gave me the tools to think it through and one day I was reading a daily devotional book by Henri Nouwen, and on July 20 there it was. It’s entitled “who is my neighbor” and Nouwen talked about the Samaritan who crossed the road to take care of the poor man. The key is crossing the road and now I am thinking about what I means for individuals here at our church to cross the road and meet our neighbor. Service is not a passive thing, you have to walk across the street and meet someone who is suffering and who you might not understand. The focus on spiritual growth helped me do that.

“St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Deerfield, Illinois, has benefitted greatly from our experience as participants in the Diocese of Chicago’s first pilot program for what is now called RenewalWorks. As part of our strategy to “Embed the Bible,” we regularly use dialog sermons for which the members of the congregation set the agenda, resulting in three very different dialogs for each of our three services. We also incorporate a minute of silence after every sermon. Spiritual Growth is now a topic at every Vestry meeting, and we have held our first ever Spiritual Growth Parish Retreat. In short, RenewalWorks!
